Looking Forward into the New Year: PhD & Certificate Programs

As we reflect back on our 20th year, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP) has celebrated numerous triumphs, had notable growth moments, and experienced great change. As we are fast approaching the new year of 2019 and our 21st year of operation, we wanted to look ahead at just two of the many exciting things that RMUoHP has planned to  increase our contribution to the advancement of quality healthcare in 2019:  the PhD in Health Sciences and two certificate programs (Healthcare Professions Education; Healthcare Leadership and Administration)!

PhD in Health Sciences

The Doctor of Science (DSc) in Health Sciences will be transitioning to a PhD in Health Sciences with the first cohort to begin in May 2019. The program will have the following concentrations: Athletic Training, Healthcare Professions Education, Healthcare Leadership & Administration, Health Promotion and Wellness, Human and Sport Performance, Neurologic Rehabilitation, and Pediatric Science. The program is a 12-semester, limited-residency, post-professional program designed to allow practitioners and educators to continue full-time work while earning their doctoral degree through a combination of online and face-to-face instruction. The curriculum includes a didactic phase and a dissertation phase.  During the didactic phase, core research, concentration, and support courses are completed; during the dissertation phase, students develop and complete a rigorous research dissertation study.  Dissertation committee members are experts from across the country with a wide range of research and publication experience.  Faculty in the program are experts in their academic fields and are familiar with the best practices of online and blended instruction.

Healthcare Professions Education and Healthcare Leadership and Administration Certificate Programs

Are you wanting to take courses to advance your knowledge in teaching or leadership and administration but are not ready to apply to a full academic degree program such as a clinical doctorate or PhD? If you are, we offer new certificate programs delivered entirely online with coursestransferrable to degree programs at RMUoHP.  The Healthcare Professions Education certificate is for individuals who desire to teach and or become a faculty member at institutions of higher education. Outcomes of this program prepare the individual to design courses, deliver instruction, and assess student learning using the best practices of teaching and learning for online, blended and face-to-face learning formats.

The Healthcare Leadership and Administration program focuses on preparing individuals for management and leadership roles in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, private practice, and higher education.  Courses in the program focus on healthcare delivery, ethics, legal issues, organizational behavior, strategic planning, communication, and management.

Both programs provide students with a true inter-professional learning experience where individuals from all types of healthcare professions from across the country collaborate through online discussions, assignments, and interaction with instructors. Students develop a network of peers where they engage within a learning community with expert instructors that is quite remarkable.  Application to the certificate programs are accepted year-round, with students enrolling and entering the programs in any semester.
