RMU Alumni Dr. Brenden Nutt Makes Positive Impact on Physical Therapy Patients

It didn’t take long for Brenden Nutt to positively affect people in his Nevada community after graduating from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMU) in April 2024. Less than a year after earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy, the RMU alumni he earned finalist honors for a prestigious Best of Reno Community’s Choice Award by people he’s helping.

“I am still shocked. Being a new grad that has been working within the Reno community for only eight months and having this kind of recognition is pretty darn cool,” Dr. Nutt said. “It’s an honor that I was able to make such an impact on the patients that I treated that some felt inclined to nominate me for the award. It helps solidify why I became a physical therapist in the first place — to help serve my community and leave a positive impact that I can be proud of.”

With a background in powerlifting and sports along with extensive educational and clinical experiences, Dr. Nutt offers expertise in helping patients in sport-specific training and injury prevention for a wide variety of activities. As a physical therapist at the Northern Nevada Medical Center, he emphasizes building provider-patient relationships through trust and achieving goals in a comfortable environment.

“This honor confirms that I need to keep doing what I am doing, continue to value the patient in the highest regard, and to continue to learn and grow in order to be an even better therapist that can provide greater help to his community,” he said.

In his spare time, Dr. Nutt is an avid gym-goer who seeks outdoor adventure — from fly fishing to golfing. His love for sport, competition, and the rehabilitation process that allows people to return to physical activities they love prompted him to pursue a healthcare profession.

“This goes into why I love being a physical therapist,” he said. “Being an educator and motivator to push people to rebuild their confidence and functional capacity back up again is quite the reward. I think there’s no other profession like it, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a physical therapist.”

His educational journey began at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in community health science with a specialization in kinesiology. He then attended RMU from Fall 2021 through April 2024 for his doctorate.

“My experience at RMU was absolutely amazing. I’ll always cherish all the memories and relationships I made while attending the University,” Dr. Nutt said. “From my classmates and professors that I interacted with, to all of the amazing outdoor activities and exploration of the Utah Valley, everything was great. I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Being nominated for an award hasn’t been the only fun, recent news for Dr. Nutt and his family. He and his wife are expecting their first child, a boy, in June.

“And,” he added, “we couldn’t be more excited!”
