RMUoHP Celebrates Occupational Therapy Month at Annual AOTA Conference

Over 65 occupational therapy (OT) alumni, students, faculty, and staff gathered last Friday evening to reconnect at the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP) reception in New Orleans, LA. The reception was held during the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Conference and Expo, which took place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center the week of April 4-7. More than 8,000 occupational therapists from around the nation gathered to learn and develop as practitioners, researchers, educators, and administrators.

The reception, hosted by the RMUoHP Alumni Association, included current and program post-professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program directors. Attendees were greeted by OTD program director Dr. Michelle Webb and mingled with former OTD program directors, including Dr. Melissa Sweetman and Dr. Loriann Helgeson. Alumni, students, and faculty spent the evening reminiscing and reconnecting.

Alumni Across the United States

University graduates are accomplishing great work throughout all 50 states, which makes professional conferences like AOTA one of the best opportunities for alumni to reconnect! The University specifically encourages students and alumni to join their professional associations. Over 100 alumni from the OTD degree program attended the AOTA Conference and Expo in New Orleans!

The RMUoHP Alumni Association will sponsor the next alumni and friends reception at the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) National Conference on June 21 in Indianapolis, IN.

Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program Growth

The OTD degree program at RMUoHP was established in 2003 to help occupational therapists continue to advance healthcare within the profession.  Occupational therapy practitioners working in clinical, administrative, and academic settings were quick to embrace the doctoral degree. The program provides a focus on evidence-based practice to help practitioners provide the best care for their patients. Since 2003, the University has had 34 cohorts of OTD degree students. These students and graduates are using their knowledge to make an impact in their various professional environments throughout the world.
