Drs. Jeff Lynn and Julia Buchanan attend the National Conference of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) in Orlando FloridaDrs. Julia Buchanan and Jeff Lynn, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP) adjunct faculty in the Health and Wellness Promotion Track in the Doctor of Philosophy in Health Science program, represented RMUoHP at the National Conference of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) this past week in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Lynn was honored at an event for achieving ACSM Fellow status, a status held by only 6% of over 50,000 members worldwide. He received the award on the evening of Friday, May 31. Fellow status is reserved for professional members who have demonstrated consistent and significant service to ACSM and the sports medicine community.
ACSM, founded in 1954, includes members from 90 countries representing 70 occupations in sports medicine, education, research, human performance, and health. Drs. Buchanan and Lynn were among nearly 6,000 attendees acquiring the most cutting edge information on research and practices in exercise and sports medicine at this year’s conference. They attended session ranging from overcoming barriers to exercise to alterations in cardiomyocyte-related gene expression subsequent to physical activity. “Reading articles is fine, but there is nothing better than hearing from the researchers themselves and having the opportunity to ask questions face-to-face”, Lynn said. “It’s also a chance to network with colleagues across the globe.”
