DSc AT 3 rubs shoulders with NATA Hall-of-Famer Dr. Marsha Anderson

During each campus visit, our post-professional students get to experience new and exciting opportunities. Most recently, DSc Program Director Dr. Malissa Martin set up an informal dinner and Q&A session with her colleague Dr. Marsha Anderson, who is a renowned author, NATA Hall of Fame Member, Distinguished Athletic Trainer and Educator and professor emeritus, for our newest cohort of DSc AT students. The dinner provided the students with a great opportunity to network and learn about the many different facets of the Athletic Training profession.

Check out what the DSc AT 3 students had to say about meeting Dr. Anderson:

“I found the dinner conversation with Dr. Anderson extremely enlightening.  Having never used the books that Dr. Anderson was influential to developing; learning about the process of publication and that I can be asked to contribute to publication, editorials, or chapters in a book was eye opening.” Christopher W. Miller

“It was an amazing opportunity to meet a leading professional in our field of study during our first onsite visit at RMU. Meeting with Dr. Anderson got me excited about the future opportunities I will have to meet and make connections with professionals in the field of athletic training. Dr. Anderson was kind, easy to talk to, and genuinely took interest in each of our stories. She took the the time to answer our questions and provide insight into our professional development. Meeting with Dr. Anderson displays the incredible dedication Dr. Martin and the other program directors at RMU have for their students. They want to connect you with the leading professionals in your field, and they will do everything they can to help you.” Ryan Nokes

“It is great to see how we as students are going to be able to grow our professional networks by being associated with icons in athletic training such as Dr. Anderson. Dr. Anderson is dedicated to learning and has a passion for athletic training. It is encouraging to have scholars like her who are on your side and see your potential to help change and grow the Athletic Training profession. Dr. Anderson, even though she isn’t one of our direct professors, is willing to be involved with us growing as professionals so that we can continue to enhance our profession. She is such a wealth of knowledge and experience.” Jonathan Allen

“It was a great opportunity to meet Dr. Anderson and share a meal with such a trail-blazer in our field! I am grateful for the opportunity to have been able to converse with her and get her thoughts on how we as young professionals can make our mark in the profession of Athletic Training. She is an inspiring individual and I hope to make as much of a contribution to Athletic Training as Dr. Anderson has over the course of her career. Thank you for facilitating that meeting for us and giving us the opportunity to meet her. I appreciate it.” Whitney Bailey

“I am so thankful for the opportunity we had to meet Dr. Anderson the other night. I loved being able to talk to her and to hear her professional story of where she came from to where she is now. All that she over came to reach the top of a profession that was predominately male when she began. I look forward to building our relationship in years to come!” Stephenie Stark
