New Diversity Scholarship at RMU

For many students, financing an education is a challenging puzzle, especially for those who experience unique obstacles or are from historically marginalized groups. Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMU) has established a Diversity Scholarship to support these students. The scholarship is an annual $500 award for students from an underrepresented population, the first from their family to attend college, or who have had to overcome significant obstacles that hindered them from pursuing an education.

Because opportunities vary between people, demographics, and backgrounds, the Diversity Scholarship is designed to help alleviate some financial burdens for students and give them more opportunities for success in their educational pursuits. Juanita Iris Sanchez, a Doctor of Speech-Language Pathology student and one of the first recipients of the new scholarship, said, “This scholarship is an opportunity to excel in my education!”

The scholarship does not only assist students financially but also allows them the opportunity to share their stories of overcoming adversity. Another scholarship recipient, Nieeunta Ward, a Doctor of Occupational Therapy student, said, “This scholarship means so much to me! To have the opportunity to elaborate and enlighten others about my experiences and how I was able to overcome and help others has been a blessing. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and to be one of the recipients of the Diversity Scholarship!”

In announcing the scholarship, RMU issued the following statement:

Diversity and inclusion are pivotal to the success of Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP). RMUoHP commits to being a community which recognizes and values the worth of every person, fosters a welcoming and understanding environment, promotes mutual respect among its members, and encourages individual responsibilities as well as personal rights.”
