Prepares nurses to become Emergency Nurse Practitioners
PROVO, Utah, June 28, 2020 – Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP) announced the availability of its new Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certificate (ENPC) program, for Family Nurse Practitioners.
In conjunction with the new ENPC program, RMUoHP is also offering a new dual Family Nurse Practitioner/Emergency Nurse Practitioner certificate program for individuals desiring both certifications.
“The Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certificate program teaches Family Nurse Practitioners to care for emergent or urgent patients and includes stabilization, emergency procedures, and sound decision making with confidence,” said Kristina Davis, DNP, FNP-C, AGACNP-BC, ENP-C, RMUoHP associate professor and Emergency Nurse Practitioner Program Director. “The additional Emergency Nurse Practitioner education is invaluable in making evidence-based critical decisions.”
Students can apply now for either program at the RMUoHP admissions website. The application deadline is August 11, 2020. The semester starts August 31, 2020.
The ENPC certificate is specifically designed to help students gain intensive skills, learn high-risk skills in high-fidelity/low-risk simulation settings, and gain in-person hands-on emergency care skills. Currently, there is a shortage of providers in emergency departments across the United States. Emergency nurse practitioners help meet that need.
The certificate allows practicing Family Nurse Practitioners to gain additional expertise to evaluate and treat patients of all ages in emergency settings.
ENPC program requirements:
- A master’s (or higher) degree in nursing from an accredited institution (or foreign equivalent).
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Must be certified and currently licensed as an FNP in his or her state of residence. (Current FNP students at RMUoHP can waive this requirement.)
- One year of clinical experience is preferred.
Students who complete the ENPC program are eligible to take the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) certification exams for the Emergency Nurse Practitioner.
The dual FNPC/ENPC program prepares students to become certified as both a Family Nurse Practitioner and Emergency Nurse Practitioner. Graduates are eligible to take the AANPCB FNP and ENP certification exams and apply for licensure in both areas.
FNPC/ENPC requirements:
- A master’s (or higher) degree in nursing from an accredited institution (or foreign equivalent).
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Hold a current unencumbered RN license in his or her state of residence.
- At least one year of clinical experience is preferred.
The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree programs and post-graduate APRN certificate programs at RMUoHP are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
