Student Health & Wellness

Helping students with their health, wellness, and overall development.

Welcome to the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions Student Health & Wellness page. Student Health and Wellness is an important aspect of successful graduate and postgraduate student life. Focusing on the Eight Dimensions of Wellness will enhance your health, wellness, and overall development during your time as an RMU student.

Eight Dimensions of Wellness

The Eight Dimensions of Wellness, as defined by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), are categorized by the following: Emotional, Physical, Spiritual, Social, Intellectual, Occupational, Environmental, and Financial.

Maintaining wellness and balance in each dimension of wellness is a vital component to your health as a graduate student. RMUoHP provides campus and external resources for each of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.

BetterHelp Online Counseling

What is BetterHelp?

To support all RMU students, Student Affairs provides all RMU students with access to teletherapy services through BetterHelp, which is the world’s largest network of licensed, accredited, and experienced counselors who can help you with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationships, trauma, grief, and more.

BetterHelp services are available at no additional cost for current RMU students, staff, and faculty. If you used BetterHelp at any point during your time at RMU, services are half-priced after graduation. Counseling services are available in over 44 different languages and offer extended hours for sessions to meet the needs of our students’ demanding schedules.

When you sign up for BetterHelp, you will be matched with a counselor based on your needs and disclosed demographics, which supports the diverse RMU student population. Mental health counseling services are unlimited for enrolled students and available through text, chat, phone calls, and video conferencing.

Betterhelp also includes free resources that can be found here.

For additional information, contact The Department of Student Affairs at studentaffairs@rm.edu.

BetterHelp FAQs

Who will be helping me?

After you sign up, you are matched with a  counselor who fits your objectives, preferences, and the type of hardship/challenges you are dealing with. Different counselors have different approaches and areas of focus, so it’s important to find the right person who can achieve the best results for you. BetterHelp is able to provide a successful match most of the time; however, if you start the process and you feel your counselor isn’t a good fit for you, you can choose to switch counselors at no cost.

Who are the counselors?

Counselors on BetterHelp are licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists (PhD / PsyD), marriage and family therapists (LMFT), clinical social workers (LCSW / LMSW), or licensed professional counselors (LPC). All of them have a Masters Degree or a Doctorate Degree in their field. They have been qualified and certified by their state’s professional board after successfully completing the necessary education, exams, training, and practice. While their experience, expertise, and background vary, they all possess at least 3 years and 2,000 hours of hands-on experience. Click here to learn more about BetterHelp counselors.

Is BetterHelp right for me?

BetterHelp may be right for you if you’re looking to improve the quality of your life. Whenever there is anything that interferes with your happiness or prevents you from achieving your goals, BetterHelp may be able to help. We also have counselors who are specialized in specific issues, such as stress, anxiety, relationships, parenting, depression, addictions, eating, sleeping, trauma, anger, family conflicts, LGBTQ+ matters, grief, religion, self-esteem and more.

BetterHelp is not the right solution for you if any of the following is true:

  • You have thoughts of hurting yourself or others
  • You are a minor or you are under the care of a legal guardian
  • You are in an urgent crisis or an emergency situation
  • You have been diagnosed with a severe mental illness, or if you have been advised to be in psychological supervision or psychiatric care
  • You were required to undergo therapy or counseling either by a court order or by any other authority
  • You do not have a device that can connect to the Internet or you do not have a reliable Internet connection

How much does it cost?

BetterHelp services are free for RMU students and staff. After graduation, services are half-priced if you use BetterHelp at any point during your time at RMUoHP.

How long can I use BetterHelp?

As a current RMU student, staff, or faculty member, you may use BetterHelp as often as needed. There is not a maximum amount of visits per month, week, or year. This depends on your needs and varies  from one person to another.

How can I get started with BetterHelp?

Upon enrollment to RMU, all students are given access to Betterhelp teletherapy services. To begin using Betterhelp, please enter your @rm.edu student email account into the RMU Betterhelp portal https://www.betterhelp.com/rmu/.

If you have difficulties accessing Betterhelp services, please contact the Department of Student Affairs at studentaffairs@rm.edu.
