Dr. Courtney Gormus started her nursing career as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) on an inpatient oncology unit and worked her way through the nursing ranks earning her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN) licensures. Her time as bedside nurse was spent caring for people with cancer and complications of this terrible disease. She has also worked in the telehealth and case management setting, offering her nursing knowledge and services via virtual visits. She went on to earn her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and her Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with an emphasis on nursing education from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In April 2020, Dr. Gormus graduated from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and her Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification. During her time in school, Dr. Gormus worked diligently on her scholarly project entitled, “Compassion Fatigue Among Pediatric Oncology Healthcare Staff” where she set out to explore ways to help members of the healthcare team focus on their well-being in order to provide the best care to their patients. She is also affiliated with the Society of Simulation in Healthcare, the National League of Nursing, the Oncology Nursing Society, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Institute of Balance.
Dr. Gormus has been working in nursing academia since 2016 and is very passionate about guiding students to their goals of becoming a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner, as well as obtaining their degrees in nursing.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Gormus enjoys spending time her patients, listening to their concerns, and working collaboratively with them to develop a treatment plan that promotes healing, wellness, and an overall quality of life.
Dr. Gormus is a true Southern girl at heart, growing up in Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama. She now lives in South Jordan, Utah with her amazing husband, 2 handsome boys, and a 105-pound bernedoodle
puppy, Grizzly. During her time off she enjoys spending time with her family, going on hikes, exploring the beautiful Utah landscapes, baking, listening to podcasts, cross stitching, and on any given Saturday in the Fall, she can be found cheering on her favorite football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide.
