Concentration Track Director for Leadership and Advanced Practice of Post-Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy

Associate Professor

Dr. Ellen Hudgins, OTR/L, will be serving as the APM Elective Track Director. Additionally, she is teaching the leadership course for OTD students. Dr. Hudgins has been an occupational therapist for the past 30 years. She attended undergraduate school at the Medical College of Virginia, graduating in 1987 and completed her OTD at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2014, completing the APM track at that time. Dr. Hudgins served as the Administration and Management Special Interest Chairperson for the American Occupational Therapy Association from 2014-2017. She worked as an adjunct professor at Longwood University in the 2016-2017 academic year, teaching a therapeutic modalities course and an administrative course to athletic training students. Additionally, Dr. Hudgins served as the TA for the OTD program for four semesters, assisting with the OTD 740 leadership course. She has been a fieldwork educator for OT’s, COTA’s, and athletic training students for the past 25 years.

Dr. Hudgins is the president and owner of Progressive Therapy, opening her practice in 1993. She has three clinics in central Virginia, providing occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy services. In her spare time, she trains and competes for dressage horses. Dr. Hudgins enjoys hiking, fishing and anything outdoors. She currently resides in Buckingham, Virginia with her husband, where they own and operate a sustainable beef cattle farm. Her two sons attend Virginia Tech. Dr. Hudgins is thrilled to join the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions faculty and look forward to life-long learning with the students pursuing this program. She is proud to have attended this program and is excited to have the opportunity to give back to the university and the students.
