Dr. Emily Kosderka has been a professional athletic trainer and educator for over 25 years. She is a proud graduate of Willamette University (B.S., 1996) and Indiana University (M.S., 1998). After finishing her Master’s degree, Dr. Kosderka served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for Lewis & Clark College before accepting the job of Head Athletic Trainer at Concordia University in Portland—a role she held for 12 years. During this time, she assisted with developing the Exercise & Sport Science major at Concordia and joined the faculty full time in 2013. Upon Concordia’s closing in 2020, she returned to full-time clinical practice and served as the Associate Director of Sports Medicine for Portland State for two years prior to accepting her current position at Linfield University where she is an Assistant Professor of Health & Human Performance.
Dr. Kosderka earned her PhD through Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions where she studied the effects of exercise on recovery from sport-related concussion. She has been teaching for RMU since 2022 in both the Speech-Language Pathology and the Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences programs. She has been an invited speaker at multiple conferences around the country and is passionate about improving patient recovery after concussion. She serves on the College Athletic Trainers’ Society Advisory Board and is currently working to improve concussion awareness in the equestrian community.
