Jennifer M. Medina McKeon, PhD, ATC, CSCS is an assistant professor within the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College in NY. She teaches Kinesiology (EXSS 22000) and Clinical Pathoanatomy (EXSS 40700). For Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, Dr. McKeon teach Evidence-Based Practice (HS 710) for the DSc students.

Her academic and research interests include functional anatomy and pathoanatomy, biomechanics, sports injury epidemiology and time-to-event analysis, evidence-based practice, and clinical analysis of risk factors associated with lower extremity injury. She has received funding from the National Institutes of Health and has presented her research at the local, national, and international levels.

“As an athletic training researcher, I believe it is critically important to bridge the gap between the clinician and the laboratory. Within sports medicine research, there is a paucity of evidence that can be directly translated to clinical practice. My professional research goal is to generate clinically useful, valid tools for improving patient care.

Specifically, I have focused on 1) using an epidemiological approach to describe injury trends and generate prognostic indicators for return-to-play; 2) providing evidence-based answers to clinical questions through systematic review of the literature; and 3) field-testing techniques for assessing biomechanical risk factors and injury surveillance.

I live in Ithaca NY, which is about 1.5 hours from Syracuse. More than anything, I enjoy being with my family – mostly that involves my husband, Patrick, my son, Bobby (age 7), & my daughter, Mallory (age 3.5). We love to hike, play guitars, ride bikes, and go to Key West! Also, now that we have moved back closer to “home” (my parents also live in upstate NY& we have family throughout NY, NJ, and the rest of the northeast), we get the chance to be involved in lives of the rest of our family – something we hadn’t really been able to do regularly in about 15 years.”
