Ken Roach is a counselor educator with 25 years of experience in the practice of clinical
mental health counseling, and 20 years as full and part-time faculty at three different
universities. Dr. Roach graduated from the University of Utah in 1999 (M.S., Educational
Psychology) and Argosy University (Denver) in 2014 (Ed.D., Counselor Education and
Supervision).
Dr. Roach’s education duties have involved program administration, curriculum
development, and instruction and supervision of clinical mental health counseling
graduate students. He taught more than 250 graduate-level counseling classes at the
University of Phoenix (Utah Campus and Online), more than 50 classes at Argosy
University (Salt Lake City Campus), and roughly 30 classes at Rocky Mountain University
of Health Professions.
Dr. Roach’s clinical practice has included individual, family, and group counseling with
adolescents and adults experiencing a variety of disorders in a range of settings (private
practice, community mental health, intensive in-home services, and in-patient psychiatry);
populations have included ethnic minority and underserved families, adult and adolescent
survivors of sexual violence, LGBTQ+ adults and adolescents, and individuals in
faith/religion transitions. He maintains a small private practice in Holladay. In his clinical
work, Dr. Roach tries to maintain a humanistic perspective, integrating the emotional,
relational, existential, and spiritual dimensions of ourselves.
Dr. Roach’s professional service experience has included contributions to local, regional,
and national organizations and boards. He served on the DOPL CMHC Licensing Board
for 8 years, and currently serves on the AMHCA Ethics Committee and the “Leadership
Collective” of the LGBTQ+-Affirmative Therapist Guild of Utah. Dr. Roach also provides
occasional expert witness testimony in criminal cases involving sexual violence. Dr.
Roach’s passions include opera, classical music, art museums, and travel (26 countries so
far!).
