Dr. Keren Shavit-Buckley, EdD, MS, OTR/L, has over 15 years of clinical experience working in various adult rehabilitation settings, including sub-acute rehabilitation/long-term care, home care, acute care, and inpatient rehabilitation. While her focus is primarily in adult neurorehabilitation, she has experience providing occupational therapy services to infants admitted to the NICU and she is a Certified Educator of Infant Massage. In the context of her clinical work she has collaborated with interdisciplinary team members to develop a therapy referral protocol for NICU infants, created an educational program for nurses and aides on proper patient positioning for feeding, presented on addressing the sexuality needs of patients with neurological conditions and diagnoses, and more.
Her clinical work extends to the classroom where, since 2015, she has taught occupational therapy courses related to neurorehabilitation, kinesiology, human growth and development, adult medical and social conditions, and healthcare delivery systems in occupational therapy. Her teaching experience includes face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online courses, and she is a Quality Matters peer reviewer. She was also a faculty liaison and inaugural leadership team member for The Health Collective – D’Youville University’s Student Run Free Clinic in Buffalo, NY, where she assisted with the supervision of students during clinic hours and collaborated with an interdisciplinary team of faculty and clinicians on the development of student learning outcomes, strategic plan, policies and procedures, documentation templates, and recruitment of students. Her research centers around human sexuality and occupational therapy practice.
