SLPD Excellence in Service Scholarship
The SLPD Department of Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions is pleased to sponsor the SLPD Excellence in Service Scholarship for the benefit of graduate students in the Doctor of Speech-Language Pathology (SLPD) program. This scholarship is designed to recognize and reward students who demonstrate outstanding unpaid service that benefits the field of communication sciences and disorders, their communities, or the profession at large. Two scholarships of $250 each will be awarded to students who exemplify leadership, initiative, and a commitment to making a positive impact through service.
Who can apply for the SLPD Excellence in Service Scholarship?
Scholarships are reserved for currently enrolled SLPD students at RMU who are in good academic standing. Applicants must demonstrate unpaid service contributions that fall outside of any paid position, academic course requirement, or graduate assistantship. Eligible areas of service may include, but are not limited to:
The field of communication sciences and disorders Departmental or university service Local, state, or national community engagement Professional volunteer work that benefits the broader field
How can I apply for the SLPD Excellence in Service Scholarship?
Applicants must submit a complete application on AwardSpring, which includes:
- Completed General Application Form
- Current CV or Resume (with a clearly labeled service section detailing roles, dates, and impact)
- One letter of support from an individual familiar with the applicant’s service work (excluding full-time SLPD faculty or administrators)
- One-page reflective essay (maximum 500 words) describing past, current, and future service contributions, the impact of those efforts, and any leadership roles held
What is the application deadline for the SLPD Excellence in Service Scholarship?
Applications must be submitted by the fall semester application deadline via AwardSpring. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
How will I know if I was selected for the SLPD Excellence in Service Scholarship?
Award recipients will be notified within sixty (60) days of the application deadline. Scholarships will be disbursed by check or direct deposit and may be used to support tuition, fees, educational, or living expenses.
If I have previously received the SLPD Excellence in Service Scholarship, can I apply again?
Yes. Students are eligible to receive this scholarship more than once but must reapply each year. Scholarships are not automatically renewed.
If you are a Financial Aid recipient, receiving any scholarship will affect your Cost of Attendance (COA), and it is your responsibility to notify the Financial Aid Office if you are selected for an award. Should you be awarded a scholarship from any source (internal or external), take time to send the institution a “Thank You” letter.
