Dan Harmuth

Vice President of Technology & Innovation/CIO

Dan Harmuth has more than 30 years IT experience in Fortune 500 companies, local government, and healthcare organizations. Before joining RMU, he worked for the State of Utah as the IT Chief Operations Officer leading the Network/Voice group, Enterprise Hosting and Cloud Services, Desktop Support, and the Identity Access Management group, all totaling 300 technical professional staff across Utah. Before working at the State of Utah, he was the IT Director at Utah Transit Authority (UTA).

Harmuth is a retired Colonel who served for 30 years in the U.S. Army, both active and reserves and was deployed four times to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait.  He commanded Transportation Battalions, worked in the FEMA Region IX (Oakland, CA) Ops-Center, COOP coordinator for U.S. TRANSCOM, Artillery Officer, and Wartime Host Nation Support coordinator for US Forces Korea.

Harmuth holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Science in Information Technology from the University of Maryland Global Campus. He earned a Master’s Certificate in Technology Project Management from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Central Michigan University.  He is also PMP, Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt, Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE), and an Agile Scrum Master.  

In his spare time, Harmuth is an Adjunct Faculty at another university and instructs Information Management in the MBA program.  His recent favorite books include Joy, Inc (Rich Sheridan) and 5 Dysfunctions of a Team (Patrick Lencioni). He also likes to golf, spend time outdoors, and ski.
