At Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP), we understand student health and wellness is an important aspect of successful student life. We support students through holistic approaches using a framework based upon the Eight Dimensions of Wellness. In an effort to provide more support to all RMUoHP students, Student Affairs has provided access to teletherapy services through BetterHelp, which is “the world’s largest network of licensed, accredited, and experienced counselors who can help you with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationships, trauma, grief, and more.” (BetterHelp.com)
BetterHelp is a free service provided by RMUoHP for all students, regardless of whether the students are in one of our residential or post-professional programs. Currently, BetterHelp works with over 250,000 students from 150 schools and universities nationwide. Counseling services are available in over 44 different languages and offer extended hours for sessions meeting the needs of our students’ demanding schedules.
By offering teletherapy services to students, the limitations of individual state mental health licensures and regulations remove accessibility barriers/limitations for students who reside outside of Utah. Students are matched with a counselor based upon their needs and disclosed demographics, which supports the diverse RMUoHP student population.
Mental health counseling services are unlimited for enrolled students and available through text, chat, phone calls, and video conferencing, thereby allowing students to select their preferred communication route. Since launching BetterHelp earlier this year, students have provided positive feedback regarding its convenience and effectiveness.
RMUoHP believes in supporting all the dimensions of wellness for our students through holistic and preventive measures. For additional information on this program, contact RMUoHP Student Affairs at studentaffairs@rm.edu.
