FAQ
Is this a completely remote program?
We do have a fully remote option for earning your SLPD, but it isn’t the only option available. We offer two learning models for students to choose between:
Remote option: Students complete all their coursework from their home base without traveling to our campus. There is a one-day mandatory orientation session with virtual attendance for students in the online-only education model.
Limited-residency option: Students complete most of their work online, but they do come on campus for three visits, 3-6 days in length, throughout the program for skill development and professional connection.
Do I have to take the GRE to be considered for this program?
No. We have no GRE requirement.
I recently graduated with a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology. Am I eligible to start this program immediately?
Yes! Although we prefer that our students have at least a year of experience, we do accept recent master’s graduates. It is required that incoming students hold a current professional license and Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) or are completing their required professional experience (RPE) year.
Is there a minimum GPA requirement to be considered for this program?
The minimum GPA requirement is a 3.2.
How many students do you accept into this program?
Is this program accredited?
No, because there is no accreditation process for clinical doctoral programs in speech-language pathology. As an institution, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions is regionally accredited through the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
How much time can I expect to spend on coursework every week?
Students report dedicating an average of 15-20 hours per week to their coursework.
Technology Requirements
Will I need a new computer?
No, your computer does not need to be brand new – just reliable and with an operating system and specifications as listed above. If you intend to purchase a new computer, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to become familiar with it prior to beginning courses.
Do I have to have a laptop?
You are welcome to use a desktop computer at home. However, if you are in a program that includes onsite classes, you must have a laptop to bring with you.
What about a Chromebook?
Because software aside from apps available via an internet browser will be used, a Chromebook is not sufficient. Chromebook can be incompatible with some required software.
My brand new iPad will work fine, right?
Sorry, no. A hybrid/convertible laptop will be fine, but a tablet (including iPad) is not sufficient. Tablets can be incompatible with some required software.
I’ve never taken a course online. How can I prepare?
Our “Welcome to RMU!” student resource course includes specific information about multiple resources available to incoming students. In addition, at 6 weeks before the start of your program (PA students at 8-10 weeks), you will be enrolled in our required New Student Orientation course, “RMU101”. Participation in this course will give you practice with our systems and experience online.
