Dr. Bryan Nelson Named Program Director of RMU’s Physician Assistant Program

Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions has appointed Bryan Nelson, DMSc, MMS, PA-C, as program director of its Physician Assistant/Associate (PA) program.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead a program dedicated to preparing highly competent, compassionate physician assistants,” Dr. Nelson said. “My goal is to continue building on the program’s strong foundation while supporting our students.”

Dr. Nelson joined RMU in 2018 and has since become a steady and respected presence within the program. His transition into the program director role reflects both his long-standing commitment to the University and his deep understanding of its academic culture and governance.

“Dr. Nelson brings a rare combination of clinical expertise, institutional knowledge, and a deep commitment to student success,” said Dr. Ericka Zimmerman, dean of the RMU College of Health Sciences. “His steady leadership and dedication to evidence-based education will help ensure the continued strength and impact of our physician assistant program.”

He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from California State University, Northridge in 2004 and completed his Master of Medical Science degree at Midwestern University–Glendale in 2007. Following graduation, he practiced in family medicine, orthopedics, and emergency medicine. In 2020, he completed his Doctor of Medical Science degree at RMU.

For many years, Dr. Nelson practiced in the clinic and taught, which allowed him to bring real-time healthcare insights into the classroom. He has also served as a reviewer and contributor to several published works.

RMU’s Physician Assistant/Associate program prepares graduates to deliver patient-centered care across a wide range of healthcare settings. Under Dr. Nelson’s leadership, the program will continue its focus on academic excellence, clinical readiness, and advancing the PA profession.

Outside of the University, Dr. Nelson enjoys living in Utah with his family and taking advantage of the state’s abundant outdoor opportunities.
