Can I transfer credits from a previous institution into this program?
The transfer credit evaluation process is completed by our registrar’s office. For more information on that process and to see whether this program accepts transfer credits, please refer to the transfer credit evaluation form, which details the University’s policy on the transfer of credits. Who should enroll in the SLP Leveling courses?
These courses are designed for individuals who hold or are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a field other than Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) and intend to apply to a master’s program in speech-language pathology.
What will I gain from completing the Speech-Language Pathology Leveling Courses (SLP-L)?
You will gain the foundational knowledge required for graduate-level study in speech-language pathology, including topics in phonetics, speech and hearing sciences, language development, and more. Completion prepares you for graduate program applications, including RMU’s MS in Medical Speech-Language Pathology (MS MedSLP).
Are the courses fully online?
Yes. Speech-Language Pathology Leveling Courses (SLP-L) are fully online and designed to provide maximum flexibility for students balancing academic, professional, or personal responsibilities.
How long does it take to complete the Speech-Language Pathology Leveling Courses (SLP-L)?
All of the courses be completed in approximately one year, depending on your individual pace and course schedule.
How many credits are required?
The Speech-Language Pathology Leveling Courses (SLP-L) consist of 18 credit hours spread across six 3-credit courses.
What are the eligibility requirements to apply?
You must either:
- Be currently enrolled and in good standing in a bachelor’s degree program with at least 75 credits earned (junior standing), or
- Have already completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
What are the admissions requirements?
Applicants must:
- Submit an RMU general application as a non-degree-seeking student selecting the Speech-Language Pathology Leveling Courses (SLP-L)
- Provide official transcripts
- Submit a resume and a professional goal statement
Can I transfer these credits to another institution?
Yes, these courses may be eligible to count toward your undergraduate degree requirements if approved by your primary institution. They are also designed to fulfill prerequisite requirements for graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology, including those outside RMU.
Will I receive priority consideration for RMU’s MS MedSLP program?
Students who complete the Speech-Language Pathology Leveling Courses (SLP-L) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet all admissions requirements are eligible for a high-priority interview for the MS MedSLP program at RMU.
Are there any tuition discounts available?
Yes. RMU offers tuition discounts for qualifying military personnel, veterans, and alumni. Only one discount may be applied per student, and the highest eligible discount will be honored.
Can I use federal financial aid for these courses?
No. Because the Speech-Language Pathology Leveling courses (SLP-L) are a non-degree-seeking program, it is not eligible for Title IV federal financial aid. However, there are bundle discounts available for students who pay tuition in full.
Technology Requirements
Will I need a new computer?
Do I have to have a laptop?
You are welcome to use a desktop computer at home. However, if you are in a program that includes onsite classes, you must have a laptop to bring with you.
What about a Chromebook?
Because software aside from apps available via an internet browser will be used, a Chromebook is not sufficient. Chromebook can be incompatible with some required software.
My brand new iPad will work fine, right?
Sorry, no. A hybrid/convertible laptop will be fine, but a tablet (including iPad) is not sufficient. Tablets can be incompatible with some required software.
I’ve never taken a course online. How can I prepare?
Our “Welcome to RMU!” student resource course includes specific information about multiple resources available to incoming students. In addition, at 6 weeks before the start of your program (PA students at 8-10 weeks), you will be enrolled in our required New Student Orientation course, “RMU101”. Participation in this course will give you practice with our systems and experience online.
