Admissions Requirements

  • Completion of OTCAS application

  • Proof of initial NBCOT certification

  • One year experience as a certified occupational therapy assistant: 1500 hours/avg 30 hours per week.

    • Other equivalent, related degrees may have individual consideration at the discretion of the admissions committee (e.g., PTA). 

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 OR a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credit hours before matriculation into the program.

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 in each required prerequisite course (short refresher courses may be recommended if courses were taken more than five years ago):

    • Anatomy (3 credits, 200 level)

    • Physiology (3 credits, 200 level)

    • Statistics (3 credits, 100 level)

  • Three letters of recommendation (professional) from an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, academic instructor, healthcare professional OR employer/supervisor

  • Resume/CV documenting education, employment, service background, and other skills and abilities pertaining to health care and/or occupational therapy. 

  • Written Essay – no word limit (see prompts in “Detailed Requirements” tab)

  • English as a second language applicants will be required to submit a minimum TOEFL/iBT overall score of at least 92 with the following minimum section requirements:

    • Reading: 20

    • Listening: 20

    • Speaking: 20

    • Writing: 20

Applications are reviewed by the admissions committee on a rolling basis. Applicants are rated by the committee using a holistic approach where most requirements are weighted equally. Additionally, applicants are rated using only the rubric and are not compared to other applicants.

Required Bachelor Degree

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, minimum GPA 3.0, no single course graded less than 2.0. A minimum GPA of 3.0 in each required prerequisite course.

Written Essay Prompt

Other Requirements

  • Applicants will acknowledge that if accepted into the program, they will need direct and regular access to high-speed internet to participate in instruction delivered through a learning management system, synchronous video conferencing, chats, examinations, RMU web events, etc.

  • Applicants will acknowledge that if accepted into the program, they must travel to RMU’s campus in Provo, Utah, and be in person for three 5-day visits over the three didactic semesters for immersive learning to educate and train students to become occupational therapists.

  • Applicants will acknowledge that if accepted, students may also have to travel for their fieldwork, but the fieldwork coordinator will work with the student to get a placement as close to their geographical location as possible.

  • Applicants acknowledge that funding for travel and accommodations is the student’s responsibility.

Prerequisite Performance

Prerequisite courses must be successfully completed with a grade of C or better. In plus-minus grading systems, a grade of C- does not qualify as a C. Applicants offered seats contingent upon successful completion of outstanding prerequisites must complete each remaining course with a grade of B or better (earning a grade of B- does not qualify as a B).

Vaccination Requirements

Admitted students of the MOT program will receive vaccination forms regarding required vaccinations. Not all vaccinations or proof of immunity are required at the beginning of the program, but many are. The University allows for vaccination exemptions and more information about the University’s position on vaccination as well as information regarding exemption can be reviewed here.

The MOT program requires the following vaccinations and testing (these are subject to change depending on public health concerns):

  • Hepatitis B (vaccination and titer required)
  • MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination or titers)
  • Varicella (vaccination or titer)
  • Tdap (booster for tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis)
  • Meningococcal
  • COVID-19
  • Annual Influenza
  • Tuberculosis testing (PPD or Quantiferon)

Technology Requirements

Background and Purpose

The healthcare industry is heavily reliant on technology and on providers who are proficient in utilizing technology. As a result, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions requires extensive utilization of electronic devices for its programs. The purpose of this document is to define minimum technology requirements for students to ensure they are equipped with the hardware and software necessary to facilitate their participation and success in all facets of their education.

Laptop Computer*

Students are required to secure a personal computer for use during the course of their studies that adheres to the below minimum requirements (*this does not apply to students in the Optometry OD program.)

  • For Mac: macOS 13 (Ventura) or higher 

Specifications

  • Processor: Apple – M1 Chip or better. Windows – Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB or more
  • Storage: 128 GB Flash Solid-State Drive (256GB or more recommended)
  • Display: 13 inches or larger (retina display 12-inch is acceptable)
  • WiFi Connectivity: 802.11ac or higher
  • Camera: Built-in high resolution (720p or better), internal or external

Required Software

Your computer must have these systems installed:

If you don’t already have one installed, we recommend Sophos


*Note: You should have only ONE anti-virus program installed; multiple installations can be troublesome.

High Speed Internet

  • The connection should be a Cable/DSL broadband connection or better. We recommend having a minimum of 10 mbps download and 2 mbps upload. You can check your download and upload speeds at Speedtest.
  • Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) must be reliable. Please note that wireless connections can be unstable; wired Ethernet connections should be used whenever possible. If the speed of your connection is inadequate, contact your ISP to upgrade to a higher-level service.

  • Due to its integration with G Suite, we recommend Google Chrome.
  • We recommend you also have the Mozilla Firefox browser available, as a backup. 

Programs Not Using These Requirements

Admissions Disclosure

1. Admission is limited and selective. All completed applications will be considered for admission.  All applicants must demonstrate a previous record of successful academic achievement, clinical experience, and the motivation to pursue graduate-level education.

2. Full Disclosure Requirement: Incomplete or falsified admission information constitutes grounds for a refusal to admit or immediate dismissal, loss of credit, and forfeiture of all tuition and fees paid.

3. Confidentiality: Admissions materials received by the University are kept in strict confidence. Once the application materials are received, these materials are the property of the University and will not be returned to the applicant. All applicant materials are kept for one year following receipt if the applicant does not enroll.

Program Accreditation

Accreditation: The entry-level Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMU) applied for candidacy, August 11, 2023, by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E Bethesda, MD 20814. The program must obtain candidacy status, have a pre-accreditation review, complete an on-site evaluation, and be granted Accreditation Status before its graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT®). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
