FAQ
What's the process for securing clinical placement with a preceptor?
The initial responsibility for securing a preceptor lies with the student. Before clinical rotations begin, students are contacted by the Clinical Coordinator (CC) to discuss the clinical placement process. The Clinical Coordinator provides information about potential preceptors, sites we have affiliation agreements with near you and shares the Student Handbook, outlining all clinical rotation requirements. Students must complete all required forms and submit documentation, including preceptor profiles, licenses, board certifications, vaccination records, and CVs through Typhon. Students must receive written clearance from the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) before beginning clinical rotations. If students have shown due diligence and are still unable to secure a clinical placement, assistance in finding preceptors is available from the DCE and CC.

(PMHNPC) Can I complete clinical hours remotely via telehealth?
Students may be eligible to complete a portion of their required clinical hours through remote or telehealth experiences. No more than 50% of total clinical hours may be fulfilled through approved telehealth activities. These hours must still meet established learning objectives, be supervised by qualified preceptors, and comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards. Before beginning any telehealth clinical work, students must confirm specific requirements with the Program Director and the Clinical Coordinator.

Can I transfer credits from a previous institution into this program?
The transfer credit evaluation process is completed by our registrar’s office. For more information on that process and to see whether this program accepts transfer credits, please refer to the transfer credit evaluation form, which details the University’s policy on the transfer of credits. If you have any questions, please get in touch with the registrar directly at registrar@rm.edu.

Do I have to have a laptop?
You are welcome to use a desktop computer at home. However, if you are in a program that includes onsite classes, you must have a laptop to bring with you.
What about a Chromebook?
Because software aside from apps available via an internet browser will be used, a Chromebook is not sufficient. Chromebook can be incompatible with some required software.
My brand new iPad will work fine, right?
Sorry, no. A hybrid/convertible laptop will be fine, but a tablet (including iPad) is not sufficient. Tablets can be incompatible with some required software.
I’ve never taken a course online. How can I prepare?
Our “Welcome to RMU!” student resource course includes specific information about multiple resources available to incoming students. In addition, at 6 weeks before the start of your program (PA students at 8-10 weeks), you will be enrolled in our required New Student Orientation course, “RMU101”. Participation in this course will give you practice with our systems and experience online.
