F-1 Visa Students for the OTD Program
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I complete the RMU OTD program if I live outside the United States?
How often do I need to travel to campus?
Students are required to attend periodic on-site visits twice per semester during semesters 1–4 and semester 7. A permanent relocation to the United States is not required.
Is the RMU OTD program approved for F-1 international students?
Yes. The RMU OTD program has received federal approval to support F-1 international students in a limited-residency format. Not all hybrid programs have this designation, making RMU’s program distinct.
Will I receive help with the F-1 visa and I-20 process?
Absolutely. RMU provides access to a dedicated F-1 Student Visa advisor who will support you throughout the entire process, including I-20 issuance and documentation, understanding and maintaining visa compliance, and navigating federal requirements during enrollment.
Can I work in the U.S. after graduation?
Yes. Graduates of the RMU OTD program are eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows up to 12 months of authorized U.S. employment, paid salaried work in your field, and eligibility for a Social Security Number.
How do international students contribute to the RMU OTD learning community?
International students enrich the program by bringing diverse perspectives on global healthcare systems, insight into international reimbursement and service delivery models, and strong academic preparation and professional rigor.
Can I apply if I already live in the U.S. on another visa?
Yes. Students currently residing in the U.S. under work visas, spouse visas, or other authorizations are welcome to apply. In some cases, residency visit requirements may not apply.
